Controlling Your Pain

Dr. Cherry discusses natural ways to get rid of pain.

Bookmark and Share

Pain is one of the most difficult things to deal with for both patients and doctors. The ultimate way to control pain is to get at the root cause of it and eliminate the problem, but that is not always possible, especially for chronic pain.

One of the most common areas in the body that people experience pain is in the back; more than 65 million Americans report back pain. Headaches are a close second, and arthritic pain (of the knees, hips, etc) is another.

What we need to do is aim our treatment at getting rid of the pain. One key thing to remember is that inflammation often triggers pain, and reducing inflammation, in turn, reduces pain. There are several natural things to try before turning to high-dose prescription medications that can be habit-forming and have numerous side effects.

We have done research on the most common natural ingredients that have been used against pain and combined then into a formulation called Duramet, which may be able to help you with your pain management. The ingredients we used are those that appear again and again in the medical journals, including:

Bromelain is an analgesic (pain-reliever) and anti-inflammatory derived from the pineapple plant. Specifically, is has been studied on patients with acute knee and lower back problems and has been proven to be very effective in lowering their pain scores.

Cat’s claw is an herb shown to be a potent anti-inflammatory. Studies on those with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis has shown cat’s claw to be very effective.

Ginger, used for thousands of years, is considered a “wonder herb” because it affects so many areas of the body. It is also an anti-inflammatory, and has been shown to reduce musculoskeletal pain. A study at the VA hospital in Miami found ginger to be effective in curbing knee pain associated with osteoarthritis.

Boswellia, or frankincense, is an extract with strong Biblical ties. An anti-inflammatory agent, it is a better painkiller than NSAIDS and aspirin, without the side effects. It has been used to decrease the pain of athletic injuries, and has allowed people with knee pain to walk further distances.

Oxygene is taken from the flowering part of the hops plant. It has been used as an inflammatory to decrease pain.

So if you’re dealing with pain day in and day out, start with something simple and natural. These are the best natural ingredients available to deal with pain, all brought together in my Duramet formula.

Pray about using this particular formulation, because a lot of research has gone into it. It may be a strong, strong pathway for you to achieve a pain-free body as God wants you to, and become your pathway to healing.

Look At The Trees

One day, I looked and I beheld the grandeur of a mountain. Standing in the awe of it I said ,“O dear Lord, that is what I want my faith to be like strong, unmovable, and magnificently humongous!” Now, on another day I was looking beholding the splendor of the ocean and I said “O Lord, now this is how I want my love to be: deep, enormous and noticeably unstoppable. Then one night I looked and beheld the awesomeness of a starlit night, and I asked “Father, would you please make my understanding as this that I do see? So vast, so unsearchable, and so overwhelming awesome.”
One day, He answered, “My son, look at the trees, just like everything that lives, they grow. Starting from something small, working their way up to maturity. Take a lesson from these and in the end you shall have what you are after.” I then went and considered the splendor of the silver leaf maple and the endurance of the evergreens, along with the strength of the acacia trees, and the productivity of the fruit trees, with the grandeur of the oaks and the comfort of the willows, and developed a doctrine to grow by, one to aid my every movement.
I noticed that they grew despite the sun beating down on them in the heat of the day. That they stood despite the harsh winds pushing at them from the mighty storms. They lived despite the frigid cold of snow and ice. I saw them growing despite all that they lived through. So, I buckled down and despite people’s hate, I tried to love. Despite all the pain and tribulation, I tried to be patient, and despite the turmoil and chaos, I tried to develop peace. However, I saw very little reward, hardly any progress at all. I truly felt like one of the least of these and one that produced twenty, not sixty or a hundred fold. Why was I not growing by leaps and bounds? I could not understand what was wrong.
Then the Lord spoke to me and said, “Look at the trees, the ones that are as big as mountains, so enormous as to drink up a sea, the ones like the night skies that are so overwhelmingly breath taking that they make you stand in awe. Just look at the mighty Sequoia trees, these monsters of wood for thousands of years have been living to suck up all the torrential rain that God sent their way. For hundreds of decades these giants of trees have been refreshing themselves in the rest that they take underneath the blanket of winter’s frost.
So, after seeing these new understandings to grow by I started to change my life around completely. No longer to live despite life’s circumstances, as the rocks and dirt do, which grow not, but to live because of the circumstances in my life. I shall grow my faith as huge and as strong as a mountain, and because of my circumstances, I shall push my love to be as enormous and as consuming as an ocean. I shall expand my understanding also to be as vast as the eastern skies, and just like my Creator I shall stand to the end as more then a conqueror and not a victim of circumstances.
If you are growing through some hard times, please look up, cause God is truly in control, and I assure you, He has given us our circumstances for us to grow by and not for our demise. Also, continually remember patience is not just waiting, it is waiting with all longsuffering with out complaint. Now that is what will make us complete and entire wanting nothing. Fruitful unto every good work. Please let God richly bless you mightily in Jesus Christ. Thanks,
S.S.U . I

Hello Dr Cherry

I suffer from IBS-D, complusive overeating and severe seasonal hayfever. I read your Pathyway to healing book and would love to meet with you so that you could examine me and pray for my pathway to healing. However, I live in Ohio and am not sure if I can get to you. I have looked for Christian M.D's in my state but I cannot locate any.

Please pray for me and make some suggestions. I've had medical treatment for all 3 of my ailments but have had no relief. I am only 32 yars old and desperantely want to walk in my pathway to healing so I can more fully enjoy the life God gave me. I am listening to the Holy Spirit but in your book you said yo need a doctor to help you discover your mountain so that you will know what "mountain" you need to speak to. I am open to suggestions from you on how to get total healing in these crucial areas of my life. Thanks!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you on your journey to find a pathway to healing. Unfortunately Dr. Cherry is mostly retired from seeing patients, and is not able to recommend anyone in your area that he knows personally. Sometimes members of your church can be a good resource, as you'd be surprised at how many people pursue natural options for health. In addition, other members of our Pathway to Healing community who see this may provide a recommendation.

As you search for a Christian physician to guide you, here are a few things to keep in mind regarding your conditions:

• Research indicates that there may actually be a link between IBS and allergies – in fact, the likelihood of IBS was more than two times higher in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis. According to the lead researcher, “If doctors can identify that a patient with IBS has a history of seasonal allergies or allergic eczema, some of that abdominal pain may be part of the patient’s allergic disease. They would be able to unlock another piece of the treatment puzzle.”
• In addition, there appears to be a correlation between IBS and depression, which is frequently a cause of compulsive overeating (see: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/01/080130170325.htm).
• IBS and allergies are often associated with an overactive immune system, and depression (if this is actually a factor in your compulsive overeating) has also been recently linked to an over-activation of the immune system. Calming and balancing your immune system may have a positive effect. (You may want to read Balancing Your Immune System and Allergies: Your Immune System in Overdrive.)

Once you find a doctor you are comfortable with, you may want to take this information to him/her and together you can discover your mountain and can continue your journey. God Bless!
