Linda shares health tips from the Cherry household with you!

Dear Linda,
I was diagnosed with stage 3a breast cancer in April of 2011. I know that God has a plan for me, as He does for all of His children, and believe that I am Healed by Jesus' stripes! My doctors are in agreement at this point.
I am currently taking Tamoxifen and just completed radiation at the end of Feb after finishing my chemo in November. I am feeling strong and healthy! I want to do my part in taking care of my body as well as my family's bodies. I have a 6 year old who is a picky eater and a husband who loves red meat but will try some of your recipes in hopes that I can get them to enjoy some healthier things.
Do any of your supplements conflict with Tamoxifen? Have you heard of Tumeric as being a good supplement in pill form? What would you recommend for a 45 year old woman such as myself. I will run everything past the oncologist, of course, but trust the theology behind what you are doing and would greatly appreciate advice from you. Thank you for your ministry to the world!!
Warmest regards and thank you-
Carol Ann
PS. I am physically very healthy, exercise, eat right and am at the lower end of "normal" for weight. I am 5'7" and around 115.
Many blessings for your continued healing! It sounds like you have been doing a wonderful job keeping yourself healthy.
To answer your specific questions:
Tamoxifen is not known to have negative interactions with most supplements. However, those that may have hormone supportive effects, such as soy and black cohosh, should not be taken with tamoxifen without your doctor’s specific approval.
Turmeric, or curcumin, is primarily taken as a supplement for its anti-inflammatory properties and as an antioxidant. Recent studies have indicated that it may have the potential for additional benefits, but more research is needed (see http://www.cancer.org/Treatment/TreatmentsandSideEffects/Complementaryan...)
To keep your body in the best possible position to continue its own natural healing, you may want to consider a full spectrum supplement (such as Basic Nutrient Support®) that provides a strong nutritional foundation. Of course, as you mentioned, talk to your doctor before beginning a new supplement program.
We hope you and your family enjoy the recipes – it is often easiest when the whole family is on the same healthy eating plan!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue on your pathway to healing.
God Bless

Unfortunately, there are no clear-cut alternative therapies for Interstitial Cystitis. Research has been done on many herbs, compounds, and nutrients, with these being the most frequently cited and showing some promise:
DMSO/MSM
Chondroitin sulfate
Quercetin
Plant sterols
Melatonin
Bromelain
Gotu Kola
L-arginine
Licorice and marshmallow roots
Please contact a healthcare practitioner to discuss whether any of these ingredients should be added to your supplement program.
Is there an uncomplicated cause and prevention of ammonia in the urine?
I HAVE VERY DENSE BREAST . ANY ADVICE OR ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED. I HAVE THE MENOPAUSE SUPPORT FROM YOU. SINCERELY, FRANKIE
From Dr. Cherry’s book, Herbs That Heal: “Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) works well for women with fibrocystic breast disease.” It also says, “Taking 400-800 IU of natural vitamin E daily, discontinuing the use of caffeine, and consuming EPO have all proven to be beneficial.”
In addition, studies have found that eating less saturated fat led to a decrease in the pain and lumpiness. Replacing meat and full-fat diary products with fish, non-fat dairy and fish is recommended.
Taking a lot of supplements... and also 2.5 mg prednisone... any suggestions on special supplements for 'gluten intolerance'?
With gluten intolerance, there is an increased need for nutrients because food is poorly absorbed as a result of the intestinal inflammation. A good multivitamin/mineral is a good place to start, but there are specific nutrients that are important for those with this condition as well:
Fish oil, for its anti-inflammatory properties, and because the absorption of fats is particularly poor with this condition;
Digestive enzymes, which digest gluten, should be supplemented to improve overall absorption and assimilation of nutrients;
B- vitamin complex. B12 deficiency is common in those who can’t eat grains, and a lack of vitamin B6 is partly responsible for symptoms of celiac disease;
Vitamin C and bioflavonoids, to improve resistance to disease.
In addition, taking prednisone increases your risk of osteoporosis, so you need to ensure that you are getting enough calcium and vitamin D.
(Basic Nutrient Support contains all of these nutrients; Bone Support supplies additional calcium and vitamin D)
Becky,
You are wise to pay close attention to what nutrients you are getting from various sources, including fortified foods.
The B vitamins in the Basic Nutrient Support (BNS) do, for the most part, meet or exceed the RDA, to ensure your basic needs are being met. However, there is a large "therapeutic range" for most vitamins and minerals, and anything within that range is considered safe. For the B vitamins, the amounts in the BNS are on the low end of that range, allowing for quite a bit of additional intake from food or other add-on supplement formulations.
If you eat numerous foods throughout the day that have 100% RDA fortification, you may be getting too much, but a couple of bowls of cereal a day (and I don't believe the ones you mentioned have full 100%) should be just fine.
I have been using Dr. Cherry's Basic Nutritional Supplement now for over 6 years. The concern I have presently is the extra Vitamin supplements which come in cereals such as Fiber One, Cross your Heart Cereals, Kashi cereals which are all very good fiber enriched cereals but also have additional Vitamin B, etc. Is there a danger of getting too much Vitamin B or others in these cereals when taking basic nutritional vitamins?
I would appreciate a response.
Thanks,
Becky
has anyone heard of bile reflux? I have bile coming up from my small intestine into my stomach and am praying of wisdom on what to do to stop this. Apparently the pyloric valve must be opening too much or perhaps it is just weak. There must a natural way to correct this. I was diagnosed with gastritis because of the bile. Thanks for any good advice.
This appears to be the article that every resource refers to when describing bile reflux: http://www.mayoclinic.com/print/bile-reflux/DS00651/DSECTION=all&METHOD=print
There was also research done recently that indicated that PPI's, or proton pump inhibitor medications, often prescribed for acid reflux (which also may occur with bile reflux) can actually increase bile reflux symptoms. You may want to discuss this with your doctor if you are taking PPIs.
Specific natural remedies haven't been clearly identified, although drinking aloe vera was suggested by some, and the effects of both acupuncture and yoga on bile reflux are currently being studied.
Good luck and God bless.
I had these problems and opted for the reflux surgery that tightens the muscle to keep the bile from coming up. It was a hard surgery and no one told me that I would not be able to throw up or burp ever again. It is not worth the price. Please tell your writer to really do her homework before making a bad choice like I did.
I would love to have Linda's cornbread recipe again. I lost it in a storm. Can I get it again?
Has anyone tried any of their tablets for anxiety? After I had a hysterectomy, haven't slept well & feel like I am tense all the time.
Please give me feedback if you have. thanks
Stress Support has helped me.

What a blessing to have receipe's by Linda!
I am always trying to seek healthy cooking receipe's, especially salmon which is a bit too fishy flavored for me. I had a honey and almond (I think that was what it was called)salmon at TGI Fridays that was good.
Thank you for all you do on your web site.
God Bless you both!!
