The University of Maryland Medical System has a wonderful reference age about urinary tract infections, including recommendations for nutritional supplements, herbs, probiotics and other options for reducing both symptoms and further outbreaks. Here is the link: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/urinary-tract-000169.htm
God Bless.
my daughter has this, pray for her, please and what can she do fo it?she is 50.thanks
Our prayers are with you, your daughter and your family as she faces this health challenge. Hepatitis C is a serious disease of the liver that is caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
Conventional treatment of hepatitis C includes injections of drugs, such interferon, to get rid of the virus. In addition to the medications she most likely will be prescribed, your daughter may want to speak to her doctor about the following herbs that can help strengthen the liver and/or protect the liver against the often toxic side effects of the drugs:
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is an herb that may protect the liver from oxidation and toxic injury, reduce inflammation, and stimulate regeneration of the liver. It can be used indefinitely and is the most common herb taken for hepatitis C.
Schizandra berries (Schisandra chinensis), the fruit of a Chinese plant, may support healthy liver function.
Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) may reduce some of the complications of hepatitis C and improve liver function. However, licorice root should be used carefully and only short-term because it can have significant side effects, including high blood pressure, salt and water retention, potassium loss, and potentially dangerous interactions with medications such as diuretics, certain heart medications, and corticosteroids.
Ginseng may help the body's disease-fighting and glandular systems and may also help improve the way the liver works and reduce damage to liver tissue.
(As always, and especially with a serious condition such as hepatitis C, before beginning any supplement program, have your daughter discuss it with her physician.)
In addition, lifestyle steps such as eating a healthy diet (lots of fruits and vegetables and while cutting back on fats and sugars); exercise (which can increase immunity, energy levels and improve mood); and eliminating alcohol (alcohol further damages the liver) can all be helpful.
Continue to pray for your daughter’s pathway to healing and God Bless.
I so appreciate the suggestions for Hepatitis C; however, the diagnosis is cirrhosis of the liver. The liver is fatty and enlarged. Resulting in an enlarged pancreas as well. Less than a year ago, the liver was shown to be fatty but not enlarged and the pancreas and spleen were in the normal range. Platelets, RBC and WBC are significantly below normal range at least since November.
I do plan to discuss with my dr Milk thistle as well as Schizandra berries. The Licorice root scares me a little with the side effects so I think I will avoid that one. Ginseng sounds hopeful as well. I do like the tea made from Ginseng so that won't be a difficult "pill" to swallow.
The doctor was not offering any positive options. I appreciate your prayers and suggestions for help. I have already begun eating healthier beginning with more fresh fruit and less fatty foods. Alcohol is definitely not an issue. Diabetes, high bloodpressure and high cholesterol are 3 factors that make this more challenging.
I am a strong Christian and believe prayer heals much. Many things grown on earth have much to offer as well. Your words of wisdom have helped me tremendously tonight. This will go a long way in helping me sleep tonight.
It appears that the reply you were looking at was in response to a comment posting titled “Hepatitis C” but the recommendations for your question about cirrhosis would be similar.
Cirrhosis is the scarring of the liver that happens because of chronic liver disease, including hepatitis C and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NFLD). People with NFLD often have high cholesterol or triglycerides and diabetes or prediabetes as well, which sounds like it may be the case with you.
In addition to the recommendations in the other reply, there are a couple of other supplements that you may want to discuss with your doctor:
• Betaine - a nutrient that reduces homocysteine levels in the body, which are associated with heart disease and are higher in people with liver disease. Preliminary studies have suggested that betaine might be helpful in treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
• Probiotics – there is very promising new and ongoing research using probiotics in those with cirrhosis, especially NFLD.
• Cordyceps - a type of mushroom used in traditional Chinese medicine to support the liver.
• Antioxidants – cirrhosis and NFLD can be caused by oxidative stress, and antioxidants may help reduce oxidative damage
You may also want to discuss any use of OTC medications with your doctor. For example, acetaminophen (Tylenol) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as naproxen or Aleve, and ibuprofen or Motrin or Advil) can damage the liver and should be used sparingly.
It is wonderful that you are eating more healthfully! Fruits and vegetables are natural sources of antioxidants and are part of a low-inflammation diet, which may be helpful in addressing chronic inflammation, considered a factor in numerous chronic conditions including diabetes, heart disease, and possibly cirrhosis. (For more on the anti-inflammation diet, see Battling Inflammation with Food.)
You may also need to eat less sodium, since salt encourages the body to retain water – a common problem with liver disease. (For tips on reducing sodium intake, see.
Shake the Salt Habit.)
Remember that God has a unique pathway for every person, including a pathway to healing. Your strong faith and continued prayers for healing are an important part of finding your pathway, and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you as well. God Bless.
"Calcium & Magnesium" should help for restlessness & sleeplessness.
Calcium and Magnesium is a natural tranquilizer and it definitely helps you sleep. Prayer works any time.
i would like to know also about this and does it really work.
No, I haven't tried them. But here's what works for me: I stop thinking about all the stuff in my life, all the stuff I have to do tomorrow, the stuff I didn't get done, the mistakes I made during the day, the problems I or other family members have, etc. That's the hard part.
Then I silently pray the Lord's prayer, paying attention to the meaning of every word. If my mind drifts from the prayer I start it again from the beginning. I keep repeating the Lord's prayer until I fall asleep. It never fails and it takes fewer repitions than you think!
I thought I was the only person who prayed the Lord's prayer over over until I fall asleep. This really works.
I will have to try praying the Lord's Prayer on those difficult nights. I was thrilled to hear that someone replied to my comment! For so long it has been really quiet out there!
