Dr. Cherry,
I was wondering what the best way is to test for Vitamin D deficiency? Also, what is the RDA for an adult male (46 years of age)?
Thank you!

There is a simple blood test to determine your Vitamin D levels. Because deficiency in this nutrient is becoming so much more common, doctors are regularly ordering the test.
Right now, the guidelines for adults 19-50 is 200 IU and 400 IU for those 51-70, but that may soon be changing. The American Medical Association and other groups are calling for it to increase to 800-1000 IU, with many doctors recommending 1200-1400 IU per day. The safe daily upper limit is 2,000 IU.
